Are you affected by the 2plan data protection breach?

Advisory network 2plan has experienced a data breach. The company, which provides independent financial advice, service, and support along with wealth management, investment, retirement, and financial planning services, has written to affected clients to alert them to the security incident.

In a letter to affected clients, 2plan has warned that the nature of the stolen data means that it is at risk of being used by scammers and that victims of this breach may be targeted by cybercriminals.

KP Law is investigating this incident, and we are considering a no-win, no-fee group action claim to help victims living in England & Wales claim compensation. To register your interest in joining this action, sign up below and we will be in touch with more information.

Victims of the 2plan data breach could be at risk

A letter from 2plan to affected clients states: “We have completed expert analysis of the data involved in this incident, and have determined, given the nature of the stolen data, that there is a risk the data may be used by someone to deliberately target you, for their own financial gain. We are also concerned that there is sufficient data about you to enable attempts to impersonate you, or approach you (via telephone or email) with potentially believable scams.”

Worryingly, it took the firm almost a year to inform all affected clients about the security violation. Delaying the notification has further exposed these clients to potential cyberattacks.

To ensure they do not fall victim to further attacks, anyone affected by the 2plan data breach should be vigilant.

We may be able to claim compensation for any distress or financial losses experienced because of this breach and we urge anyone affected to register with us.

FAQs about the 2plan data breach

There is limited information available about this attack. However, we do know that in May 2023, 2plan identified a cyber incident impacting isolated parts of their IT system.

This has not yet been confirmed. However, in a letter to affected clients, 2plan warned that the nature of the stolen data means that it is at risk of being used by scammers and that victims of this breach may be targeted by cybercriminals.

2plan has offered affected clients a two-year free subscription to Experian’s web monitoring service. In our experience, most firms only offer these services for one year following a data security incident, so the 24 months complementary subscription could reflect the potential the scale of this breach.

2plan should be in touch to notify affected individuals.

If we do launch a group action, there are no costs to join a claim. However, if your claim is successful, you may have to pay a ‘success fee’. This fee is taken from the compensation awarded to you. At KP Law, our success fee is competitive, and we make sure you are fully informed about any potential costs before you officially join our action. If you lose, you won’t have to pay a penny.
