Google Search Advertising Competition Claim

You may be owed compensation from Google

Competition Claim Against Google: For abusing its dominant position in the search advertising market

Were you an Advertiser on Google Search between 2011 and 2025?

If you paid Google, directly or through an agency, for search advertising displayed in the UK between 1 January 2011 and 15 April 2025, you may be entitled to compensation as part of a new collective legal action.

The Case Against Google

On 27th May 2025Mr Roger Kaye KC filed an application with the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal to bring collective proceedings against:

  • Alphabet Inc.
  • Google LLC
  • Google Ireland Limited
  • Google UK Limited

The proposed claim accuses Google of abusing its dominant position in the search advertising market, resulting in inflated costs and reduced competition, to the detriment of UK advertisers.

On 16 April 2025 Or Brook Class Representative Limited (“OBCRL”) filed a similar application based on substantively the same facts.

Following a consensual agreement between Mr Roger Kaye KC and OBCRL, Mr Kaye KC has joined the Brook team, with OBCRL now instructing both KP Law Limited and Geradin Partners, and Mr Kaye KC supporting the Brook claim as Chair of the Consultative Panel. Mr Kaye KC has agreed to stay his claim while Dr Brook’s consolidated £5 billion claim continues.

What's being alleged?

Higher Costs

Advertisers were charged more than they should have been.

Lack of Choice

Google’s market dominance restricted access to fair alternatives.

Breach of UK Competition Law

Google’s practices violated legal protections designed to ensure a fair marketplace.

Who is Included?

You may be part of the claim if you:

  • Paid for Google Search advertising between 1 January 2011 and 15 April 2025
  • Advertised in the United Kingdom
  • Paid either directly to Google or through third-party intermediaries

If the Tribunal certifies the claim, you don’t need to do anything to be included – it’s being brought on an opt-out basis. This means eligible advertisers are automatically included unless they choose to opt out.
